Common Causes Of Cancer | Health Intimation

Overview

In some parts of the body, abnormal cells increase in an uncontrolled way, it is called cancer. These types of cells are called cancer cells, tumor cells, and malignant cells. Every single cell in our body has its own work. New cells are formed every few seconds and some cells die. These all cells controlled by DNA. Every old cell is ordered to die so that new cells are formed and work well in the body.

When a person is going to get cancer then cancerous cells increase in his body. Cancerous cells instruct them to stop die or dividing. Because of this, all the older cells are converted into cancerous cells using oxygen and nutrients. Such cancer cells grow rapidly or divided into our body.

Cancer cells can initially appear in one area of the body, then spread through the lymph nodes to other areas. Cancerous cells gradually break down the immune system, make tumors, prevent the body from working on a regular basis, and make many changes.

There are several common causes of cancer that have been discussed in the following articles.

Common Causes Of Cancer

Here,

1. Age

One of the biggest common causes of cancer is age because half of the cases of cancer occur in people over 70 years of age. There are many cells in our body and DNA controls these all cells. To keep our body healthy and fresh, the cells repeat themselves continuously and their DNA. As increasing the age, cells do not work as well as they should. Due to this, many cells get damaged and this creates a risk of cancer.

Aging is a process and we can never stop this process. In this process many chances of having cancer. Too much contact with UV rays from the sun, smoking, drinking lots of alcohol, and cells becoming damaged for this factor you have a lot of potentials to become cancer.

Being more healthy can help to overcome obstacles against cancer. keeping a healthy weight, eating healthy food, drinking less, stop smoking and being active can help reduce the risk of all cancer.

2. Smoking and Tobacco

• Tobacco

Pipe tobacco, cigarettes, and cigars are all tobacco. Tobacco consumption is a major cause of cancer. Those who regularly use tobacco products increase the risk of cancer because tobacco contains many chemicals that harm DNA. More than 7000 chemicals are used in tobacco production, and 70 of them cause cancer.

Mainly, tobacco cause lung cancer. It causes 70% of lung cancer deaths in women's and 85% of lung cancer deaths in men all over the world. It causes also cancer of the nasopharynx, mouth, pharynx, paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity, lip, kidney, liver, bladder, stomach, and esophagus. It also causes another disease which is heart and lung diseases.

Nowadays, smoking is banned in many places like public places, restaurants, offices, etc. This is great news because of more than 90% of diseases linked with tobacco. So if you use it, then it is better to leave it.

• Secondhand smoke

Secondhand smoke means the smoke in air nonsmokers breathe. Due to smoking in the air, it is also called environmental tobacco smoke. Non-smokers breathe some chemicals in tobacco smoke, which comes from smokers. There are many chemicals in smoke such as cadmium, lead, ammonia, monoxide, benzene, and nicotine.

Every year more than 60000 people die in the United States due to secondhand smoke. It has become a big problem for Indoor and outdoor air pollution. Like smoking and tobacco, it causes lung cancer, pharynx, rectum, brain,  stomach, and bladder cancer. Lung cancer and heart disease this two disease are mainly caused by passive smoking. To avoid the secondhand smoke problem, you try to stay away from smoking people.

3. Some foods

• red and processed meat

A lot of people like to eat red meat in the USA. Red meat is a good option for diet and also for health. The problem is that eating too much red meat and processed meat may increase the higher risk of cancer. Red meat increases the risk of bowel cancer and processed meat increases overall cancer or breast cancer.

• Hot drinks

Many people like to drink coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or other hot drinks. People who drink hot drinks every single day have 90% of their chances of having cancer. Recent research from the American Cancer Society has shown that people who take hot drinks are at risk of having esophageal cancer. Hot drinks cause esophageal cancer. In 2019, more than 6000 people died due to this.

Drinking a hot drink can lead to cancer. There is a factor that causes the risk of having cancer, such as older age (55-70), having acid reflux, and eat high in processed meats. In the present time, hot coffee or any other hot drinks may commonly cause cancer.

• Alcohol

Everyone knows that drinking alcohol leads to health problems but not everyone knows that drinking alcohol increases the risk of cancer. It does not just drink too much alcohol can cause cancer even drinking fewer amounts also can be harmful. There are harmful chemicals in alcohol, which gradually produces cancer in the body.

There is no such thing that drinking alcohol can cause cancer to all people, but this increases the risk of cancer. Alcohol may cause lung, liver, mouth, throat, breast, esophagus, colon, pancreas, and stomach cancer. It can also have other negative effects harming your heart, liver, mind, throat, and damage to cells in the body.

4. Physical inactivity

• Lack of exercise

Physical activity is important for health. People who exercise regularly are healthy and more likely to maintain a healthy weight. Due to lack of inactivity may increase weight gain and weight gain is a cancer risk factor that can increase the risk of colon, breast and endometrial cancer.

• Being overweight ( Obesity )

Obesity is also a common cause of cancer. If you look in the United States, 30% - 40% of the total population are fighting with the problem of obesity. Being overweight does not mean that someone will develop cancer. But it is increasing a person have a chance to get cancer.

Obese people often have chronic lower-level swelling, which can cause DNA damage over time, which mainly causes cancer. Colorectal, post-menopausal breast, esophageal, kidney and pancreatic, endometrial cancer, etc. Cancer cause due to Obesity. maintain a healthy weight is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of cancer.

5. Sun and Other Types of Radiation

• UV radiation in sunlight

This is a very common cause of cancer because the sun's rays are found everywhere and affect everyone. Skin cancer is mainly due to ultraviolet radiation. It is very dangerous for the skin. There are three types of UV radiation called UVB and UVA. Both types of radiation can cause skin cancer.

Sunlight, tanning lamps, and sunbeds are the source of UV rays. People who get a lot of UV radiation from these sources are at high risk for skin cancer because these radiation damage the DNA of skin cells. The onset of skin cancer occurs when this damage affects DNA genes.

There is no such thing as everyone has skin cancer due to UV radiation. Skin aging, Sunburn, tanning, loss of skin elasticity, and people spend a lot of time outdoors for work they are at high risk for skin cancer. A lot of people die from skin cancer, this is primarily due to radiation.

• ionizing radiation

Ionizing radiation is a type of energy that comes from the atoms in the form of particles and electromagnetic waves. This type of radiation has a lot of energy which can damage your DNA and can also cause cancer. The example of Ionizing radiation is heat waves, radio waves, infrared light, x-ray, gamma ray, etc.

Soil, water, and the air is the natural source of ionizing radiation and X-ray machines is common human-made sources. This radiation is very dangerous for our body parts such as tissue and organs. How much radiation causes our tissue, it depends on how much radiation we get. Actually, on the obtained radiation supplements.

The short term effect of ionizing radiation are skin redness, hair loss, or acute radiation syndrome and Cancer is the long-term effect. Try to avoid this type of radiation.

6. Viruses and Other Infections

• HPV virus

The complete form of HPV is Human papillomavirus. HPV virus usually enters people from one person to another through sexual contact. Some cases have shown that HPV viruses pass by direct skin contact. It is the most common type of sexually transmitted infection. There are more than 100 types of HPV, of which 14 types of virus are dangerous for cancer.

People who are in the grip of the HPV virus, increase the risk of developing 6 different types of cancer. Including cervical cancer, anus, vagina, vulva, penis and oropharynx cancer. The most dangerous thing is that the HPV virus causes cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the world second most common cancer in women, which is caused by the HPV virus so it is a very common cause for cervical cancer.

In 2018, more than 300,000 women and 31000 men died due to cervical cancer. Mainly, it is a big problem for low- and middle-income countries. HPV vaccination is the best way to end this kind of risk.

• Hepatitis virus

Hepatitis virus is of two types, the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Both of these viruses HBV or HCV can cause cancer infections. Normally this type of virus directly spreads through blood-blood contact. For example by sharing razors, needles, toothbrushes or through unsafe sex. People with infectious blood transfusion may also be infected.

Hepatitis Virus is a very common cause of Liver Cancer. More than 350 million people worldwide are living with HBV or HCV virus. For this reason, the virus is very common for cancer. The person who contact with HBV or HCV, the virus continues to attack liver inflammation, which causes liver cancer in that person.

A vaccine is available on NHS to protect people from infection with HBV. It's free for high-risk people.

7. Air pollution

Air Pollution is also included in Common Causes of Cancer. Air pollution is a dangerous thing that affects everyone such as humans, animals, and ecosystem. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) clarified that air pollution is also a common cause of cancer. In the research of IARC found out that there are small particles in the air called PM, the main role remains in air pollution.

Polluted air enters our body during breathing or gradually it keeps us affected. Oral cancer and lung cancer are at cause due to air pollution. There is nothing to worry about because of the risk of cancer for every person is small but if you see that it is dangerous for a lot of population.

It is not only dangerous for lung cancer or oral cancer, but it also spreads to another disease such as heart disease, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The easiest way to avoid air pollution is to use an air mask.
